I just found out you cannot download video, music and ringtones in iphone… how do you get around ir without using itunes?

So I just dealt with this actually:

You’ll need to get an .mp3 version of whatever you want as the ringtone.

Google a free converter for mp3 to .m4r (Apple only reads the m4r files as ringtones)

Once you’ve converted the file, plug in your phone, click on the phone icon, and under summary, click on tones.

Drag and drop. That’s it.

Done with iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB.
