Sugar mobile has officially released the first “AI translation mobile phone” Sugar S20 this week. The main feature of this phone is the AI translation function that comes prebuilt with the smartphone. To remind you, this is the same brand that released a 64-megapixel camera phone Sugar C11 a year before.
Sugar mobile has said that this smartphone can translate up to 104 languages with this function. These 104 languages are based on online translation, but Sugar S20 also supports offline translation. Among them, four languages have support for offline voice translation, 8 languages have support for text translation and seven languages have support for photo translation. Moreover, an online human translation function comes prebuilt with this smartphone, providing 24-hour manual translation, which can be activated by pressing a special button on the side of the phone.
A mobile phone with a translation function as the main feature is a rare thing at the present while most mobile phone manufacturers have not focused much on translation feature in mobile phones. Vivo had earlier implemented smart translation assistant earlier but didn’t gain much attention. In the end, there should be a very limited number of smartphone users who will use the translation function in mobile phones all the time.
Talking about the specifications, Sugar S20 features a 6.18 inches, FHD+ notch display. We can see a 2.5D glass design on the back and the camera setup is similar to that of iPhone X. There is a 16 megapixels camera on the front and 12 megapixels dual camera on the back. Let us remind you that, Sugar S20’s rear camera is capable of producing 60 megapixels camera with software algorithms. Sugar S20 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and comes with 4GB + 64GB storage and has a battery capacity of 3500 mAh.
If we look at the specifications provided above, Sugar S20 looks like a budget mobile phone and we would expect similar pricing. However, Sugar S20 is priced at around $300, which somehow surprised us.
